A former monastery and one of the oldest buildings in Pennautier, Le Domaine du Colombier lies on the outskirts of the village within a short walk to the shops. A courtyard leads into the hallway on the ground floor. To the right, the comfortable salon with satellite TV, DVD player and films, radio/cassette, many books, telephone. Ahead, a wc, wash basin and hanging cupboard. To the left, the well-equipped kitchen, with electric oven, separate hob, large fridge, microwave. Dining area. An archway leads to the sun-room, a second salon, south-facing and running the length of the house. A scullery houses the washing-machine and second large fridge. Porte-fenetres lead to the dining terrace which overlooks the large garden with barbecue, swing and ample seating. Through a gateway are situated the copse with gazebo and fine views over the village towards the Pyrenees; and the large, private swimming-pool, 11x5 ms, including a 3x3ms paddling area. The pool is fenced for security. Loungers and other seating. The first floor of the house contains one king-size bedroom with en suite bath, shower and wash-basin; one large double bedroom with walk-in clothes closet and telephone; three twin bedrooms one of which looks over the garden and village beyond. All bedrooms are well equipped with wardrobe and drawer space. Apart from the en suite, there is one main bathroom with bath, shower, double basin and wc; and another separate wc and wash-basin. Thus 3 wcs, 3 showers, 1 bath in total. There is a lockable garage for 3 cars.

Pennautier is a village with a population of about 2300, 2½ miles north-west of Carcassonne. Dominated by the parish church, the old part of the village has a baker, butcher, general store, pizzeria, stationer, post office and one or two bars. The river Fresquel flows close to the Chateau's renovated restaurant. Pennautier wine is of good quality and not expensive. Mobile shops visit Pennautier, and there is a public bus service into Carcassonne. Pennautier is half a mile from the Route Nationale from Toulouse to Narbonne, and about four miles from the airport. The centre of troubadour culture in France, Pennautier boasts its own theatre with regular programmes of music and drama. A lively, house-proud village.

To the north lies the western shoulder of the Montagne Noire. Quiet country roads lead through wooded uplands to attractive villages.

The Canal du Midi, a world heritage site, is two miles away. The tow path affords pleasant walks under the plane trees, and boat trips can be arranged. Carcassonne is the most frequently visited places in France outside Paris. The largest fortified medieval city in Europe, it stands magnificent 150 metres above the river Aude. It is the perfect medieval city with its three kilometres of ramparts, thirty-five defensive towers, its moat, Viscount\'s castle and basilica.

Several historic cities are within easy reach, including Montpellier, Béziers, Castres, Albi, Narbonne, Perpignan, Toulouse and St. Pons. By autoroute the coastal resorts of Gruissan and Narbonne Plage are less than an hour's drive away. Local beaches recently received European awards for cleanliness.
